Art - Aaron Draplin Notes

Previously in Art, we had watched a video from an established designer. We watched his process of designing to learn/ get some hints on how to create an effective design. I have taken some notes that I'll like to share from the video of Aaron Draplin explaining his design process.

Here's the Video: Aaron Draplin Takes on a Logo Design Challenge

Here's my notes:

With Logo Design start off by writing your company name over and over in different ways like lowercase and uppercase. This is to get a feel of what you're working with. Knowing what your client/business does can give you a context of what kind of color palette would be appropriate to work with. It can also give you an idea of what your design would also look like.

After sketching around in your fields notebook to generate ideas you then create them by designing software. Starting off simple can help create the foundation. Once you have developed a design; you should duplicate it as you may want to go a step back just in case or to remember how you started off. After you made a prototype design that you like you should experiment with its size to see its feel from different approaches.

You should also work with other designs you sketched in your fields notebook rather than work with the one you've gotten. You could even incorporate the two together to create more variety-wide designs.

You should also work with other design elements like the background/materials the design is going to be on. Working with typography is also another element you should experiment with.

Art - Poster Concept

In Art, We had begun to research the poster component of our designs. This can be seen in an earlier blog post which shows 6 different posters that I had manually selected due to preference. That was essentially an 'inspiration' to help us find a type of design we would want for our posters. From that research, I'm most likely going to stick to geometric shapes with bright vibrant colors, and a theme of minimalism and potentially contrast too. I'll upload my concept designs on posters when I believe they are at a level where I'm satisfied with for concepts.

Art - Poster Inspiration

Here is a short blog post showcasing 6 different posters that I've found and that I like. I'm going to analyze them and write notes on what I like about them and potentially incorporate into my own poster design later on.

Here are the posters that I've found:

- All these posters give the feeling of being ‘clean’. Every shape seems to be placed with clear intentions. Some posters do seem to use contrast as one of their main elements. Minimalism is also present in all these posters. There seems to be a common theme of using only geometric shapes as well. Most of them use vibrant colors along with either a lighter or darker tone of that same color.

Art - Update (Logo Designing)

For Art, I am currently trying to design some logos that could potentially fit the brief of my company. My company is one that creates apparel designs but my logo concepts so far are looking a bit plain. I could make them work; just need a bit more developing and planning. Colors are another factor that I'll need to look at.

Here are my concept logos.

Art - My Brief

For my next task in Art, I had to go and try writing up my brief for the company that I'm planning to 'make'. This brief is just the basic groundwork needed but is still helpful as writing stuff down can somewhat help us narrow down what we would like to do. Although I'm going to post my brief; I wouldn't call it the final draft as changes are most likely to happen due to me having second thoughts on some stuff like Color Schemes and even possibly the purpose of the company.

Here's my first draft for my Brief. I do plan to work on it a bit more in the future.

The Brief

Continuing On From That

I also had to go onto a font website and find 20 different fonts that I like. This will help me find some inspiration and clarity on what I'm exactly designing.

Art - Color Palette

Currently, In Art, we are working towards the initial steps for making a company. Right now I am trying to find a color palette/theme for the company I'm making which I'm thinking is a design company that works with the theme of Abstract. For this, I initially wanted bright and vibrant colors but after playing with the color wheel on Adobe I might expand my options a bit more.

Anyways here's the slideshow of every color palette on different types of Color Ranges on the Adobe Color Wheel:

Art - Level 3 Introduction/Brainstorm

This year for Art, I'm going to be designing something that I would like. Currently I have created a brainstorm somewhat, but I think this brainstorm is very much still in progress as I haven't exactly settled down on what I'll like to design. For now I'm just generating ideas on what I could design. I would like my design to be different from last year but I don't know what will happen in the future.

Here's my Brainstorm.
